The Sports Lawyers Association (SLA)
~ A good place for women sports agents to start ~

The Sports Lawyers Association (SLA) is a non-profit, international, professional organization whose common goal is the understanding, advancement and ethical practice of sports law. There are over 1,000 current members: practicing lawyers, law educators, law students, and other professionals with an interest in law relating to professional and amateur sports.

The Mission of SLA is three-fold:
1.   Provide educational opportunities and disseminate data and information regarding specific areas of sports law.

2.   To provide a forum for lawyers representing athletes, teams, leagues, conferences, civic recreational programs, educational institutions, and other organizations involved in professional, collegiate, Olympic, and amateur sports. SLA's role is to foster the discussion of legal problems affecting sports law and to promote the exchange of a variety of perspectives and positions.

3.   To promote and, where necessary, establish rules of ethics for its members involved in sports law.

The Sports Lawyers Association membership has grown in recent years. The benefits include access to comprehensive and useful sports law information (much of it collected at this web site for the ready reference of our members only), as well as the opportunity to learn first-hand about current developments in the field from recognized experts at our annual conference. SLA provides opportunities for its members to be more effective, to learn and gain access to the newest, most complete, and most authoritative information.

The Sports Lawyers Association publishes two different and important publications; The Sports Lawyers Journal, an annual law journal, and The Sports Lawyer, a bimonthly newsletter. Each publication contains valuable information on the most current topics that our members find critical in their day-to-day operations.

As a key activity in fulfilling its mission, each year the SLA develops and holds the premier sports law symposium. SLA's Sports Lawyers Annual Conference offers members and non-members the unique opportunity to come together for three days of educational programs, round-table discussions, and social activities. Members and experts in related fields meet each year to exchange ideas and make new contacts. In all jurisdictions, attendance at SLA's Conference qualifies lawyers for Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credit.  The 2001 Convention will be held May 17-19, 2001 at the Loews Hotel in Philadelphia, PA.
