Launched in July of 2000, as a non-profit (501c3) organization, the group committed to giving back to support a variety of causes nationwide. According to a WSBI spokesperson, "we are dedicated to maintaining the highest ethical standards and ensuring that we use this opportunity to give viewers information they can put into action," says a spokesperson for WSBI. WSBI plans on using the profits to support Alzheimer's, aging, and cancer research. In addition, they will contribute to the education and career efforts of those who might otherwise be "locked out of the industry. The WSBI wants to give women sports fans the opportunity to witness all the exciting events that females participate in nationwide and eventually worldwide. They are committed to showing numerous events every day, twenty-four hours a day. The women's organization plans to build a network of volunteers and organizations throughout the United States who are dedicated to making a difference. They will function as a platform for the volunteers and organizations to access cable and satellite viewers, and produce sports news programs comprised of information submitted by the network. All other programming will be the responsibility of organizations that want to see their event on television. As funds become available, the WSBI will establish ten regional offices to help enhance their coverage. "The employees of these offices will be selected from volunteers who have proven their dedication to the success of this organization. The regional offices will be responsible for fundraising, gathering news and supporting the volunteer network in their region," says a spokeperson for WSBI.
