Announce Major Sponsorship Agreement


lucy.comNew York, NY.  UhlSport America and the Women's United Soccer Association/WUSA have reached a multi-year agreement for UhlSport to become the Official Uniform Supplier for three WUSA teams and they are the Bay Area CyberRays, New York Power and the Philadelphia Charge. The announcement was made today by Jurgen Kiefer, President and CEO of Uhlsport International, and Lee Berke, The Acting President of the WUSA. The WUSA will kick off its inaugural season in April 2001.

"We are very excited and pleased to be associated with the first premier women's soccer league," said Kiefer.  "The success and development of the women's game in the United States is widely recognized and appreciated in the global soccer community. This league and its international collection of players will play a pivotal role in the continuing development of soccer for women."

"UhlSport International is one of the top apparel firms in the world and I am very pleased that they have decided to join the WUSA family," said Berke.  "Their choice to outfit three of the WUSA's teams is a further endorsement of the WUSA's appeal and of the league's pending success."

The WUSA will launch next April with the following eight teams: Atlanta Beat, Bay Area CyberRays, Boston Breakers, Carolina Tempest, New York Power, Philadelphia Charge, San Diego Spirit and Washington Freedom. The WUSA will feature all of the members of the 1999 World Cup Champion and 2000 silver medal winning-team. WUSA's founding players are: Michelle Akers, Brandi Chastain, Tracy Ducar, Lorrie Fair, Joy Fawcett, Danielle Fotopoulos, Julie Foudy, Mia Hamm, Kristine Lilly, Shannon MacMillan, Tiffeny Milbrett, Carla Overbeck, Cindy Parlow, Christie Pearce, Tiffany  Roberts, Briana Scurry, Kate Sobrero, Tisha Venturini, Saskia Webber, and Sara Whalen. The league will also feature over 20 of the top international stars from Brazil, Canada, China, Germany, Japan, Norway and Sweden. WUSA investors include John S. Hendricks, chairman and CEO of Discovery Communications, Inc., the parent company of Discovery Channel, The Learning. Channel, and other cable network services; Amos B. Hostetter, Jr., former chairman and CEO, Continental Cablevision, Inc., Comcast Corporation, which has majority ownership of QVC, Comcast-Spectacor, Comcast SportsNet, and The Golf Channel, and a controlling interest in E! Networks; Cox Enterprises; Cox Communications; and Time Warner Cable.

Reach Agreement On Official Game Ball

New York, NY (December 13, 2000) - Select Sport America and the Women's United Soccer Association/WUSA have reached a multi-year agreement for the Denmark-based company to become the official game ball supplier when the WUSA kicks off its inaugural season in April, 2001.

Jeff Solem, Select Sport America's Vice President of Business Development, and Sara Delgado, WUSA's Vice President of Sponsorship Sales made the announcement today.

Select Sport will supply Game Balls to all eight WUSA teams, as well as produce a replica ball that will be available at retail. They are currently in the process of designing a custom ball for the WUSA that will incorporate the league logo and red and blue colors on the Brilliant Super ball.

"The Women's World Cup '99 illustrated the high quality of play and level of passion for the women's game," said Solem.  "Teaming with the WUSA is a testament to Select Sport America's dedication to quality, performance and the game of soccer."

"We're delighted to finalize a multi-year agreement with Select Sport America," said Delgado.  "They have an outstanding reputation for quality and authenticity and are growing in stature in North American.  It is only fitting that Select Sport designs the custom ball for the inaugural season of the WUSA."
