Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation
continues to Reach New Heights

BURLINGTON, VT.  Boarding For Breast Cancer (BBC), a non-profit, youth-focused awareness and fundraising foundation, is continuing to impact the masses.  Last year BBC announced its plan to establish Boarding For Breast Cancer Chapters across the country and today continues to inspire through all cultures.

Boarding For Breast Cancer's mission is to spread breast cancer awareness among today's youth, and to raise funds for research and educational programs through events, sports, music, and art. By establishing regional Chapters, the BBC Foundation strives to further its mission and broaden its reach at a community level on a year-round basis, and build its network of volunteers and supporters throughout the country.

In its 6th year, BBC is expanding its outreach programs to set up and work with regional chapters. The chapters will allow individuals and groups across the country to participate in and enhance current programs as well as create new regional programs.

BBC was launched in 1996 with the inaugural BBC Snowboard + Music Festival at Sierra-At-Tahoe, CA. This awareness and fundraising event was founded in honor of Monica Steward, a prominent member of the snowboard community, who was diagnosed with breast cancer at the age of 28. Over the five six years, the success of the Festival generated an overwhelming national interest in BBC's mission, and has demonstrated the need to raise breast health awareness among a younger demographic than previously targeted by breast cancer organizations. This inspired BBC founders to further BBC's mission beyond the single festival and establish the Boarding For Breast Cancer Foundation.

Today the Foundation's events and programs include: BBC's 6th Annual Snowboard + Music Festival, to be held on April 14, 2001 at Sierra-At-Tahoe, CA.  BBC's 2000 / 2001 Board-A-Thon Program, Strengthened by Fitness Magazine, a six-stop tour at resorts across the country including Stratton Mountain, VT; Mountain High, CA; Snowbird, UT; Mt. Bachelor, OR, Crystal Mountain, MI, and Windham, NY. BBC's Educational Outreach Program, which includes a BBC youth-focused, interactive awareness booth that travels across the country to sports events and concerts.

BBC will start establishing Chapters in the regions of BBC event locations, and then expand based on other regional interest. Chapters will provide support for BBC's existing events, and will develop programs that further BBC's mission at a grassroots level, including awareness and fundraising events, local high school and/or college awareness programs, and membership drives.

Over the past five years, BBC fundraising efforts have exceeded $500,000 for the cause. Past beneficiaries include, The Breast Cancer Fund, The Susan G. Komen Foundation, The Nina Hyde Center For Breast Cancer Research, and a variety of regional organizations. BBC will continue to award grants to individuals and organizations that closely align with our mission, and to develop more of BBC's own awareness and fundraising programs.
