BIG Acquires Girls Action Sports Site, Chicksticks.com
~Company Appoints Chicksticks.com Founder, CEO to Senior Producer, Girl Content~

BluetorchIRVINE, CA.  In a move designed to strengthen its commitment to the growing girls' action sports market, Broadband Interactive Group (BIG) today announced the acquisition of chicksticks.com, a groundbreaking action sports Web site designed exclusively for girls surfing, skateboarding and snowboarding enthusiasts. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

As part of the agreement, Chicksticks.com chief executive officer and founder Tracey Hagemann will join BIG's Bluetorch network as senior producer, girl content, responsible for developing Bluetorch's growing girls' initiative. BIG's Bluetorch is a cross-media network of television, print, Internet media and competitive events targeting the more than 50 million "Gen Y" participants and fans of skateboarding, wakeboarding, surfing, bodyboarding, snowboarding, inline skating, motocross and BMX.

"Girls' action sports are a vital part of the market, yet its participants have been incredibly overlooked and underserved," said BIG vice president of interactive, Scott Bushman. "Through Chicksticks.com and our appointment of Tracey Hagemann, we can now tap into this important audience through enhanced content and services, including a wider selection of girls' gear, more robust event coverage and girl-specific features."

A landmark online destination for girl action sports fans, Chicksticks.com was the first Internet site to sell girls-only action sports gear and provide coverage of important girls' snowboarding, surfing and skateboarding events. Launched in October 1999, Chicksticks.com offers direct, girl-to-girl advice and features links to other sports and general interest girl sites. "Girls who love action sports will now have even greater access to gear that is made for the way we ride and the way we live," said Hagemann. "Joining with BIG gives us the ability to round out our store with additional lines of boards, clothing and accessories for surfing, skating and snowboarding."
