WUSA CyberRays' Double Staff For Inaugural Season

SAN JOSE (Jan. 30, 2001) With the opening of training camps for the inaugural season of the Women's United Soccer Association / WUSA just a month away, the Bay Area CyberRays have nearly doubled the size of their staff to 14 full-time employees.

Marlene Bjornsrud, CyberRays general manager, today announced the addition of six staffers at the director and manager level. With those additions, the only remaining full-time staff positions to be filled are assistant coaches to head coach Ian Sawyers.

An additional 10 positions at the intern level will be filled between now and the opening of the season April 14.  The new CyberRays staffers are:

Christine Eustice, Director of Personnel
Eustice spent the last nine years working in high school athletics.  Most recently, she served as athletic director at Gunn High School in Palo Alto, and prior to that was the athletic director at Pinewood High School in Los Altos Hills.  Eustice played softball at San Jose State University.  She later worked as an assistant softball coach at Bowling Green University and Santa Clara University.  A native of Palm Springs, Eustice received a BS in Physical Education and Human Performance from
San Jose State University.

Karen D. Baker, Press Manager
Baker worked with the 2000 ESPN Summer X-Games in San Francisco. In 1999, she worked with the Oakland Athletics in public relations and community relations. She began her career in sports in sales and operations, working for minor league baseball teams in Arizona and Texas.  Originally from Houston, Baker graduated from the University of San Francisco with a master's degree in Sports and Fitness Management. She also holds a law degree from the University of Houston and a BA in
sociology from Duke University.

Dainis Kalnins, Operations Manager
Kalnins joins the CyberRays after working with the United States Soccer Federation and the women's national team. He served as the equipment coordinator for the national team at the 2000 Women's Gold Cup championship team and the 1999 Women's World Cup.  Before working with the national team, Kalnins owned and managed a successful lawn care business in Florida. In 1997, he worked as the performance coordinator for the International Performance Institute at the Bolliteri Sports Academy.  He graduated from the University of Iowa with a BS in Exercise Science and Physical Education. He earned his master's in sports administration from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.

Leonard Lun, Corporate Sponsorship Manager
Lun has handled corporate sponsorships in a variety of sports settings. He spent 1 ½ years with the San Francisco 49ers marketing department handling corporate sponsorships and general marketing duties. Later he handled NCAA rule compliance and governance as well as sponsorship duties for the West Coast Conference. Lun also worked in the legal department for Disneyland. He graduated from Santa Clara University's School of Law and Leavey School of Business and is a member of the California State Bar. Lun received his Bachelor of Commerce degree from McGill University in Montreal, Canada. He enjoys playing and coaching soccer as well as skiing.

Gail Osborne, Marketing Manager
Osborne previously worked as a physical education instructor for Rhythm & Moves, a company that contracts with Bay Area schools to provide quality physical education.  Before moving to the United States in 1999, she worked closely with England's Football Association as the sports development officer for the town of Milton Keynes, about 50 miles north of London. She coached soccer for the Northampton Centre of Excellence. In addition to soccer, Gail enjoys playing field hockey and lacrosse. She attended the Clarendon School in Bedford, England and is originally from Milton Keynes.

Heidi Peterson, Athletic Trainer
Peterson was previously trainer for the women's basketball team at San Jose State University.  A certified athletic trainer, she worked as an assistant women's lacrosse coach for St. Mary's College and served as the senior women's administrator at Gonzaga University from 1994 to 1998. In 1995, she was the hockey and basketball trainer for the U.S. Olympic Committee. She also served as the head trainer for the 1993 NCAA Women's Golf Championships.  She has a BA in Physical Education and Athletic Training from San Diego State University.
