(January 9, 2001) Eldora's Weekly Women's Ski
Program NEDERLAND, CO. (January 9, 2001) Eldora Mountain Resort's Women's Wednesday program is one of the largest weekly women's ski programs in the nation. Its popularity has grown steadily every year since it began. Last year's interest in the program and early enrollment have been so high that Eldora is added a second day, Tuesday! New for the 2000-2001 Season is a mini three-week session in March. Women's Wednesday is a weekly downhill skiing, snowboarding, telemark and cross-country skiing program that is designed specifically for women. The women come from a variety of backgrounds and professions. They range in age from mid-20s to over 60 years old and span every ability level, from beginners to experts. The session will be six weeks long and will meet start on Tuesday, January 9, 2001 or Wednesday, January 10, 2001. The program will include continental breakfast, gourmet lunches, four hours a day of instruction on the slopes. The cost is $375 for downhill skiing, telemark skiing or snowboarding. The cost for cross-country skiing is $225, both programs include six-week season pass. New this season is a three-week mini Women's Wednesday session will start Tuesday, February 27, 2001 or Wednesday, February 28, 2001. The cost for alpine skiing is $189. and cross country skiing for $129. Eldora started the Women's Wednesday program in the late 1970s. As the interest in women's skiing grew throughout the 1980s, so did the popularity of the program. When it began only alpine skiing lessons were offered. Cross-country skiing lessons were added a few years later, and during the 97/98 season Eldora added telemark and snowboard lessons to the program. This year the number of participants taking telemark lessons doubled from last year and the number of women snowboarders in the program increased tenfold. Part of the program's success can be attributed to Eldora's easy accessibility from Denver and Boulder. Because Eldora is located 47 miles from Denver and 21 miles from Boulder, the women can easily drive up in the morning and down in the evening every week. Women also enjoy the program because it gives them the chance to ski and snowboard with other women of their same ability levels; it allows them to learn in a non-intimidating, social environment; and it gives them the opportunity to meet other women who have similar interests. The women often ski together outside of the program and contact one another in the off-season to hike and bike together. "The ladies look forward to Women's Wednesday as their special day-they plan ahead, adjust schedules, arrange babysitters and get substitutes for work," said Petie VanEveren the Women's Wednesday program coordinator. "And with the growth that we've seen this year, I expect the program may grow to two days a week next year." Eldora Mountain Resort, located just 21 miles from Boulder and 47 miles from Denver, offers the closest skiing and riding to the Denver area. Its 12 lifts (two quads, two triples, four doubles and four surface) service 52 trails on 680 skiable acres with a 1,400-foot vertical drop. Eldora is proud to be a family-friendly resort that offers families and newcomers their own skiing terrain, the Little Hawk Family Zone.
