WUSA To Hold Waiver Draft On Wednesday, DEC. 5 AT 5 P.M. ET New
York, NY (November 29, 2001) – WUSA Commissioner Tony DiCicco announced
today that the league will hold its post-season waiver draft on December 5,
beginning at 5:00 pm ET. Teams may waive a minimum of two players and a
maximum of eight players from their active rosters.
Teams also have the option of upgrading any of their three reserve
teams players to contract status or to release them to the waiver draft, which
will span a maximum of four rounds. The list of draft-eligible players will be
available on Monday, December 3, at 5:00 pm ET. The
teams may cut their roster size from its current number of 23 players to a
minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18.
Teams may draft a 19th player, but must waive a player from their
active roster within 24 hours upon the conclusion of the draft to get back
down to 18.
If a player is waived, and then is not taken in the waiver draft, they
will be considered an unrestricted player and free to sign with anyone at the
league minimum. Results of the draft will be posted live to the league’s
official website at wusa.com. The
order of the draft was determined by the WUSA final standings for the 2001
season and will be held in reverse order of those standings: 1.)

Diego Spirit 5.) Philadelphia
