New York, NY (November 29, 2001) – WUSA Commissioner Tony DiCicco announced today that the league will hold its post-season waiver draft on December 5, beginning at 5:00 pm ET. Teams may waive a minimum of two players and a maximum of eight players from their active rosters.  Teams also have the option of upgrading any of their three reserve teams players to contract status or to release them to the waiver draft, which will span a maximum of four rounds. The list of draft-eligible players will be available on Monday, December 3, at 5:00 pm ET.

The teams may cut their roster size from its current number of 23 players to a minimum of 12 and a maximum of 18.  Teams may draft a 19th player, but must waive a player from their active roster within 24 hours upon the conclusion of the draft to get back down to 18.  If a player is waived, and then is not taken in the waiver draft, they will be considered an unrestricted player and free to sign with anyone at the league minimum. Results of the draft will be posted live to the league’s official website at wusa.com.
