Competition Postponed Due To Strong Winds
Billabong Pro Teahupoo (May 7-18)

TEAHUPOO TAHITI (May 10, 2002) The 2002 Billabong Pro Teahupoo was today postponed due to unfavorable conditions. Round one of the women's World Championship Tournament (WCT) was placed on hold for two hours this morning as organizers waited to see if the situation would change, but ultimately they opted to wait for both the women and men's division to continue.

Surf is 4-6ft (1.5-2m), but strong onshore winds are making a mess of the lineup. Australian's Nathan Hedge, Beau Emerton, Richard Lovett and Luke Egan were among those free surfing this morning, though none were anxious to
see the event called on. Choppy wave faces being the last thing you want to deal with at Teahupoo.

A decision will be made tomorrow morning at 6:30am (local time) as to the day's schedule.
