Most-Viewed College Basketball Game BRISTOL CT (April 2, 2002) Sunday night's NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament championship game, in which Connecticut finished a perfect 39-0 season with a 82-70 victory over Oklahoma, was seen by more viewers than any basketball game in ESPN history which is 5,349 games in 23 seasons. The game was viewed by an average of 3.487 million homes, surpassing the record of 3.440 million for the Princeton - Arkansas NCAA Men's Tournament first-round game on March 15, 1990. The telecast's 4.1 rating was 24% higher than last year's 3.3 rating for Notre Dame vs. Purdue with 28% more viewers (2.153 million). In addition: *The three-game Final Four averaged a 2.8 rating and 2.372 million homes, up 8% and 10% respectively over 2001 (2.6 rating, 2.153 million homes). *Overall, the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament on ESPN averaged a 1.2 rating and 1.008 million homes, up 9% and 13% respectively over last year (1.1 rating, 896,000 homes).
