Heinrichs
Names 18 Players To Face Finland On April 27
Of
the 18 players, 15 were on the USA's Algarve Cup roster for the tournament in
Portugal at the beginning of March. The
three new additions are defender Brandi Chastain, who missed the tournament
while recovering from minor knee surgery, forward Christie Welsh, the 2001
Hermann Trophy and MAC Award winner from Penn State, and forward Mandy Clemens,
who is poised for a breakout year with the Philadelphia Charge of the WUSA. The
match will be a part of the first-ever doubleheader with the U.S. Women's
National Team and WUSA squads as the San Jose CyberRays face the Carolina
Courage at 4:30 p.m. In addition to
Welsh, Heinrichs named four other college players to the roster in defender Cat
Reddick (North Carolina), midfielder Aly Wagner (Santa Clara), midfielder Devvyn
Hawkins (Santa Clara) and goalkeeper Hope Solo (Washington). The
roster is stocked full of local ties as 10 of the players either hail from or
went to college in the San Jose/Bay Area. Chastain,
a San Jose native, and CyberRays goalkeeper LaKeysia Beene, who hails from
Sacramento, will join current Santa Clara Broncos and reigning NCAA champions
Wagner and Hawkins, former SCU stars Kylie Bivens, Clemens and Danielle Slaton,
the #1 pick in the 2002 WUSA draft by Carolina, as well as Los Altos native
Lorrie Fair, former Stanford star Julie Foudy and UC Berkeley legend Joy
