Training Camps for the WNBA Open April 29 NEW YORK NY (April 17, 2002) WNBA teams will gather Monday, April 29 as training camps begin and players take to the court for the first time. Camps will open with Media Day on April 29. A complete schedule of times and locations will be listed in next week's WNBA News. Preseason begins on Thursday, May 9 when the Miami Sol meet the Phoenix Mercury at America West Arena in Phoenix. The WNBA will tip off its sixth season over Memorial Day weekend as the defending champion Los Angeles Sparks host the New York Liberty on Saturday, May 25 at the STAPLES Center.
