WUSA Signs Maytag As New League Sponsor
Two-Year Deal Is First Ever Sports Sponsorship For Maytag

ATLANTA GA (April 17, 2002) The Women's United Soccer Association and Maytag Appliances, one of America's most trusted brand names, announced today Maytag's first foray into sports marketing with its sponsorship of the Women's United Soccer Association (WUSA) for the 2002 and 2003 seasons. Maytag will become the official home appliance sponsor for the WUSA.

"We could not be more excited to have Maytag's first-ever sponsorship venture be with the WUSA," said Kevin Klein WUSA Vice President of Sponsorship Sales. "It speaks volumes in the confidence they have in our proven brand and our ability to connect with our fans and communities."

As part of the sponsorship, Maytag is designated as the Official Home Appliance Sponsor of WUSA and will sponsor the post-game "Autograph Alley" at each stadium, where fans can meet and interact with the players. The company expects to showcase the Maytag Men at several games throughout the season and its Mobile Marketing Tour - a semi-trailer truck filled with working appliance innovations - will appear at six games.

"Maytag is delighted that our partnership with WUSA will help raise awareness of strong female role models through family-oriented soccer events," said Kristi Lafrenz, Maytag brand manager. "Given that Maytag and WUSA share a commitment to dependable, top-caliber performance, we couldn't think of a better partner.

Maytag will also be provided chest patch branding on Atlanta Beat uniforms. In addition, WUSA and Maytag will collaborate to promote community-based programs in each of the eight WUSA markets, and include player appearances and soccer-related activities.

"The WUSA is an ideal sports sponsorship opportunity for Maytag, considering their appeal to women and families," Lafrenz said. "We look forward to strengthening our alliance with WUSA even more as our relationship matures," Lafrenz added.

The WUSA and Maytag will also collaborate on developing community based grassroots campaigns in each of the eight WUSA markets as part of the sponsorship program and include player appearances with soccer based activities.
