Ratkovic Leads The US
Team To Win World Team Championships
WEYER AUSTRIA (August 18, 2002)
Reigning US Pro Duathlete Champion, Andrea Ratkovic took 5th place
over-all at the Powerman Long Course Duathlon World Championships.
Heather Gollnick followed in sixth and
2000 US Champion, Desiree Ficker, placed seventh, generating enough
points to beat 2nd place Germany. "It was really very cool"
Ratkovic stated, "They even played the National Anthem!" This
US Team produced the best finish in the history of the sport.
Ratkovic raced strong throughout the
race, holding firmly to the fourth position. She was able to ride very
well and never got passed. In the last run of 7k, with about 2 miles
ago, Erika Csomer of Hungry ran past Ratkovic, who was having some
difficulties with hamstring in the rainy and muddy conditions.
The overall win women's race went to
defending champion, Switzerland's Karin Thurig, won the race in bicycle
portion of the race and never looked back. Edwige Pital of France took
second and Lenka Llavska of Slovakia rounded out the top three.
Andrea Ratkovic will be racing Short
Course World Championships and IRONMAN Florida this November as her
Ironman debut.
