Women's Football
League Goes Big Time With
Betting Line On 2002 SupHer Bowl Championship Game!
NASHVILLE TN (July 13, 2002) The
National Women's Football League, LLC. which is less than 2 years old
has accomplished something that many start up league never do:
established a legal betting line on their championship game! League
founder and CEO, Catherine Masters has been working on this since she
started the league and to see it manifest is "totally
awesome".
The NWFL started off with 1 team which
grew to 2 teams which grew to 10 teams for the 2001 season. More than
5,000 fans attended the first SupHer Bowl last year. The 2002 season saw
21 teams battle for the right to play in the 2002 SupHer Bowl which will
be held in Pittsburgh, PA on July 27th. The game will be televised on a
delayed basis to more than a million homes on WBGN in Pittsburgh and
audio webcast live on the league's website at www.nwflcentral.com. The
game will also be video streamed on the website on a delayed basis.
Masters, who has more than 25 years of
sports marketing at the top level, knew going in that a betting line was
very important in establishing the league as a viable sport. "When
I first started the league I was told by some very qualified people that
if we wanted to be taken seriously like the other major leagues, we'd
have to do two things: get TV and get a betting line on the games. We
now have those things in place and we think they will do nothing more
but bring even more fans to our brand of football," she states.
The NWFL has already proven there's an
audience for women's football with the league's website generating
almost 2 million hits per month. And, by doubling in size in less than a
year. "We can't take all of the teams that want to join our
league," states Debby Lening, VP of Media and Marketing.
