2002-03 Non-Conference Schedule Announced

STORRS, CT (July 24, 2002)-The University of Connecticut 2002-2003 women's basketball non-conference schedule includes 13 games, highlighted by a pair of non-league match-ups against 2001-02 Final Four participants Tennessee and Duke, and prestigious tournament play in the first annual Jimmy V Women's Basketball Classic (Raleigh, NC) and the Asahi/Rainbow Classic (Honolulu, HI).

The 13-game non-conference slate includes five home games and eight road contests, including neutral tournament play. Games times, home arenas and television plans for all contests will be announced at a later date.

UConn will begin defense of its national championship when the regular season schedule opens on Friday, November 22, against Wright State University. Prior to the regular season, UConn will play two exhibition games against opponents to be determined-on November 1 and November 13.

The Huskies will hit the road for tournament play in the Jimmy V Women's Basketball Classic when they face NC State on Nov. 24, and will next participate in the Asahi/Rainbow Wahine Classic in Honolulu, HI, on Nov. 29-Dec.1. Possible opponents in the Rainbow Classic includes Denver, DePaul, Fordham, Gonzaga, host Hawaii, ACC power North Carolina and a possible NCAA title game rematch against Oklahoma.

The non-conference schedule continues with a regional contest versus Holy Cross in the Worcester Centrum on Dec. 5. The Huskies will next host USC on Dec. 8, Pepperdine on Dec. 20 and St. Joseph's on Dec. 22. The winter
break will have the Huskies in Florida to face South Florida on Dec. 28 and Florida State on Dec. 30, while January will showcase women's basketball's top rivalry when the Huskies host Tennessee on Jan. 4. In February, UConn
will be making its first-ever appearance in historic Cameron Indoor Stadium under the Auriemma tenure when the Huskies take on the Lady Blue Devils on Feb. 1.

The opponents and sites for Connecticut's 16-game BIG EAST Conference schedule are also set, with dates and arenas expected to be announced during the month of August.
