Internet-based
Station will present live coverage of complete tournament
UNCASVILLE CT (March
4, 2002) Sports Radio
Network (WSRN), the official broadcast partner of The National Women's
Basketball League (NWBL), will be presenting live and exclusive audio game
coverage of the 2002 National Pro Cup tournament, emanating from the Mohegan
Sun Arena in Uncasville, Connecticut. The internet-based
station will webcast the entire tournament, beginning with quarterfinal action
on March 26. The semifinals on March 27th and the championship game on March
28th. In total Sports Radio Network will webcast seven games. Games will be at
6 and 8 PM on March 26 and 28, and 4, 6 and 8 PM on March 27. The webcasts will be
presented live and exclusively on the internet, and can be accessed from
Sports Radio Network's official website at http://www.sportsradionet.com.
Archived games will also be available on demand following the completion of
the tournament. "This tournament
will feature some of the best women's basketball players from around the
world," said play-by-play announcer and WSRN's CEO Rob Goldenberg.
"It will be a great way for Sports Radio Network to culminate our
coverage of the NWBL this season." Sports Radio Network's
coverage of the NWBL began with the league's 2002 Draft on December 22nd live
from the Basketball Hall of Fame Museum in Springfield, Massachusetts. With
over four hours of live draft day coverage, the event provided WSRN with its
largest listening audience in its young history. Sports Radio Network's
NWBL coverage also featured the Springfield Spirits' inaugural game with the
Houston Stealth, which was webcasted to a nationwide audience in February.
"Having live coverage of the tournament was a necessity for the
league to continue its growth," said NWBL Executive Officer Patrick
Alexander. "We are extremely pleased with Sports Radio Network's coverage
of the NWBL thus far, and we expect to have fans tuning in from coast-to-coast
to their coverage of the pro-cup tournament. We are a league that is very
unique and very creative. Taking advantage of new technologies like internet
broadcasting on Sports Radio Network is a testament to the kinds of things
that we are going to be doing to promote ourselves." Sports Radio Network's
Communications and Marketing Director Andrew Scott concurs. "Internet
broadcasting is definitely the wave of the future. It's less expensive than
radio or television and the fans are the ones who profit, since they can
listen and re-listen to the games, at their convenience.
Sports Radio Network is attempting to capitalize on the growing
popularity of web-based sports programming. It has already partnered with the
United States Basketball League. After webcasting 13 regular season games, for
the league's Long Island Surf franchise, WSRN presented exclusive live
coverage of the 2001 USBL Championship tournament from Bethlehem,
Pennsylvania. This past year, WSRN also introduced High School Football to its
schedule webcasting regular season and playoff games from Long Island, New
York. Dedicated to the
production and broadcasting of high quality live sporting events and other
sports entertainment, Sports Radio Network is unique in that it targets
professional and high school teams that have limited radio and television
exposure.
